Tunisia continues to experiencing record-high remittances from Tunisians abroad. Remittances in foreign currency have reached 3 billion dinars until May 20, 2023, an increase of 6% compared to the same period in 2022.
Mohamed Mansouri, chief executive officer of the Office of Tunisians Abroad (OTE), told TAP that remittances have reached TND 2,949.9 billion, up from TND 2,749.9 billion during the same period last year.
He estimated that these transfers might reach 12 billion dinars by the end of this year, compared to 9.4 billion dinars in 2022.
He stated that these figures represent an important boost to the national economy.
Mansouri emphasized the need to consolidate these remittances by reducing the expenses of operations conducted by Tunisian banks, in particular by opting for new digital solutions.
