Tunisians commemorate the anniversary of the Tunisian Martyrs’ Day annually on April 9th.

This day remembers the Tunisians who were killed during the demonstrations in 1938. On April 9th 1938, thousands of protesters thronged Tunis to demand the creation of a Tunisian parliament.

What followed was a bloodbath; the law enforcement authorities belonging to the French colonial forces spread the crowds using gunfire. Of course, eventually Tunisians did prevail, and the nation is now independent. The April 9th events represented a major turning point in the country’s path to independence.

May you celebrate the day with a heart full of passion, patriotism, courage, and kindness!
