Tunisia’s tourism sector is off to a strong start in 2025, with impressive growth in key indicators. The latest figures, shared today by Med Mehdi Haloui, the CEO of the National Tourist Office of Tunisia (ONTT), show a marked increase in non-resident arrivals, hotel overnight stays, and tourism revenue compared to the same period in 2024.
From January 1 to July 20, 2025, Tunisia saw a total of 5,297,768 non-resident arrivals, a 9.8% increase from the same period last year. This surge in visitors reflects a broader global recovery in tourism and positions Tunisia as a rising destination in the Mediterranean region.
In line with the influx of tourists, hotel overnight stays also saw a positive uptick, reaching 12,362,062 nights — an increase of 7.1%. This demonstrates not only a rise in visitor numbers but also the growing appeal of Tunisia’s accommodations, which continue to meet the demands of both international and regional travelers.
The tourism revenue generated during this period has reached a substantial 3.9 billion Tunisian dinars (TND), marking an 8.2% increase over 2024. This surge in revenue further solidifies Tunisia’s position as a key player in the North African tourism market, with foreign revenue playing a central role in the country’s economy.
Despite the positive growth, the hotel occupancy rate stands at 35.3%, reflecting the ongoing efforts to maximize hotel capacity. With a total of 173,970 hotel beds in operation, there is still potential for growth in this area as the tourism season progresses.
Key Takeaways:
- Tunisia has experienced a strong tourism season so far in 2025.
- Non-resident arrivals, overnight stays, and foreign tourism revenue have all shown positive growth, underscoring the country’s appeal as a top destination.
- Although hotel occupancy is still relatively low, it signals potential for increased growth as the year continues.
Haloui emphasized that these promising figures reinforce the effectiveness of ongoing initiatives to boost the tourism sector and will help drive future investments. The ONTT is optimistic that this positive trend will continue, further strengthening Tunisia’s position as a leading tourism hub in the Mediterranean region.
