A Turkish Airlines flight carrying a group of international activists, including several Tunisian nationals, who had been aboard Global Sumud Fleet vessels seized by Israeli forces, has safely arrived in Istanbul. The activists were detained after Israeli forces intercepted the fleet, which was engaged in a humanitarian mission in international waters.
The Global Sumud Fleet, which advocates for Palestinian rights, was attempting to deliver aid to Gaza when Israeli military forces seized the vessels. Following their detention by Israeli authorities, the activists were eventually released and flown back to Turkey aboard the Turkish Airlines flight.
Among the activists were ten Tunisian nationals, whose names have been confirmed. They are:
- Mohamed Ali Mohieddine
- Aziz Melliani
- Nourddine Slawej
- Abdallah Massoudi
- Hossameddine Rmedi
- Ziad Jeblaoui
- Hamza Bouzouida
- Mohamed Mrad
- Anis Abbassi
- Lotfi Hajji
Their return to Turkey has been met with an outpouring of support from their families, fellow activists, and Turkish officials. The Tunisian activists played a prominent role in the mission, and their safe return highlights the growing international concern over the treatment of humanitarian missions in the region.
The activists’ detention and subsequent release have sparked protests worldwide, with many criticizing the actions of Israeli forces. Turkish authorities have condemned the seizure and reaffirmed their support for the mission, stressing the importance of international solidarity for the rights of Palestinians.
This latest incident is likely to exacerbate tensions between Israel and international allies of the activists, including Tunisia, Turkey, and other supporters of Palestinian humanitarian efforts.
