Tunisian police on Monday raided the home of Ennahda party leader Rached Ghannouchi, searching it and telling him they will take him to a police station for questioning, two party sources said.
The decision to detain Ghannouchi for questioning came following the leaked video of a conversation he had with leaders of the National Salvation Front, in which he stated that “the eradication of political Islam in Tunisia is a civil war project.”
Police have this year detained major politicians in Tunisia who oppose President Kais Saied, including other senior figures from Ennahda, an Islamist party that was the biggest in the parliament that Saied dissolved in 2021.
