Tunisians & their Obsession with Soccer2 min read

Tunisians and soccer

Tunisia lived 23 years of dictatorship under the ruling of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. So, to get their minds off politics and human rights since their not allowed to discuss such matters. they got themselves invested into other subjects such as sports, arts, food … etc. But, their number one point interest was soccer, whether it is their national team or local clubs.

Tunisians & their Obsession with Soccer

Most of Tunisians are huge soccer fans. If the Tunisian national team is playing then you will notice that streets become deserted and suddenly when their national team scores their screams of joy will be heard all around. They will spend the night celebrating a victory or analyzing the cause of a defeat.

When two fans of different clubs start arguing, most likely things will get heated and might even end up with a brawl. But since Tunisia is now moving forward with its democracy, the interest in soccer is fading little by little. But, they for sure won’t let their love for the game evaporate.
