Taoufik Charfeddine Resigns

Taoufik Charfeddine, the interior minister of Tunisia and a close aide to President Kais Saied, resigned on Friday to spend more time with his children following the death of his wife last year.

Charfeddine, who held his role since October 2021, represented an important pillar of Saied’s ruling coalition, he thanked the president for “his understanding and for letting me to be relieved of my duties,” according to his statement to the press.

In June of last year, the minister’s wife died in a fire caused by a gas leak in their home.
