Tunisia participates in the fourth edition of the Stockholm International Fashion Fair. This international event offers a unique concept that aims to explore Cultures through fashion and bring forward creativity, self-expression and ingenuity.
THE INEVITABLE ENCOUNTER “Carthage Legend”
Two Tunisian designers, a visual artist and an art craftswoman, meet and engage in the creation of ten outfits of women or men according to nature.
Out of precious, old and of pictorial or photographic works, they create clothes that cross the time of their common history in Tunisia.
They will participate in the Stockholm International Fashion Fair in September 2021. Each outfit carries a timeless message of the Tunisian feminine cause, including rurality and its traditions, professions and crafts. The journey is through contemporary time, visionary and committed in its transformation.
Art crafts is a new conception of life in society, a different way of creating moods of exchange and collaboration among artists, designers, various professions and artisans. As a continuation of this method of designing and creating on a daily basis since several years ago, Latifa Hizem, the art craftswoman, is always in the search of coherence and cohesion with the actions and people who embrace similar values to hers such as authenticity, equity and the unconditional valorization of ancestral know-how.
She is leading a fundamental battle to prevent the distortion of a historical heritage by standing up against the folkloric degradation of centuries-old crafts. Her ultimate ambition is to travel, through her designs, History and through the force of life and the passion of an entire people. The people that she wants to be represented its artists.
It is also in this way that the visual artist Meriem Bouderbala conceives her role in the society: exploring the body of women and opening all the vernacular artistic paths of the Maghreb to deconstruct the taboos and re-inventing knowledge-sharing so precious to Carthage.
In the current generation of contemporary art, this Tunisian visual artist is distinguished by a great creative audacity who advocates a new expression of women’s condition in the Arab world.
ART AND MATERIALS:
From this encounter between two female artists, materials, shapes and colors become an alchemy embodied by haik, wool, cotton, silk, velvet, silk organza, fishnet, leather, lace and embroidery, gold and silver, and by the Land of Shadow, Yellow of Naples, Light Blue, Purple Sky, lagoon Blue, Klein Blue, Metallic Pink, Carmine, Deep Gold, Olive pale, and Helios Red.
In the large workshop at work, fabrics, drawings, paintings, photographs, cuttings, invented materials and sketches occupy the space. All are posed and questioned in their transmutations severally reworked, reshaped and redesigned in a common quest: purify and liberate women.
The odyssey of those pieces starts in Stockholm. All of them depart baptized by their creators with narrative surnames.
