EU Lifts the Freeze on Ben Ali Family Funds

The Council of the European Union decided on Wednesday to lift the freeze on the funds of three Tunisians from a list whose funds are frozen, enabling them to recover their properties and bank accounts in European Union (EU) countries.

According to a decision issued by the Council of the EU published in the Official Gazette of the European Union, the list included members of the family of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

The Council of the European Union decided to lift the freeze on the funds of three members of the family of Ben Ali through its executive decision (COUNCIL DECISION (CFSP) 2024/421 of 29 January 2024) among the freezing list that included the ousted former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, which was issued by Resolution No. 101/2011 on February 4, 2011.

The list that was published by the Official Gazette of the European Union on January 30, 2024, which has the executive feature in all the countries of the European Union is:

In sections A and B of the Annex to Decision 2011/72/CFSP, the entries for the following persons are deleted:

  • Samira Bent Mohamed Ben Rhouma TRABELSI;
  • Dorsaf Bent Zine El Abidine Ben Haj Hamda BEN ALI;
  • Sirine (Cyrine) Bent Zine El Abidine Ben Haj Hamda BEN ALI.

On October 2022, the EU had also lifted freeze on seven family members of Ben Ali and others close individuals to him.

  • Muhammad Bin Monsef Bin Muhammad Al-Tarabulsi
  • Kais Bin Salah Al-Din Bin Al-Hajj Hamda Bin Ali
  • Hamda Bin Salah Al-Din Bin Al-Hajj Hamda Bin Ali
  • Najm Al-Din Bin Salah Al-Din Bin Al-Hajj Hamda Bin Ali
  • Najat Bint Salah Al-Din Bin Haj Hamda Bin Ali
  • Imad Bin Al-Habib Bin Buali Al-Lateef
  • Nawfal Bin Al-Habib Bin Bu Ali Al-Lateef
