Libyan border guards were spotted smuggling sub-Saharan undocumented migrants into the Tunisian side of border near Ben Gardane.

TUNIS, Tunisia — Three Libyan Border Patrol pickup trucks carrying over seventy sub-Saharan migrants were spotted illegally crossing the border. According to the footage, the migrants were dropped into the Tunisian side of the border.

A video was released on Thursday shows the three pickup trucks carrying a large group of migrants from sub-Saharan Africa crossing the border and dropping them into the Tunisian side of border near Ben Gardane.

Libyan border guards had claimed that, over the past three weeks, they have rescued hundreds of migrants who said they were left by Tunisian authorities in the border region, about 150 kilometers west of Tripoli.

Since the start of July, some unverified videos and reports published by the Libyan Border Guards circulating on social media claiming that the Tunisian authorities have forcibly expelled hundreds sub-Saharan migrants to the desert and hostile areas bordering Libya.

The Tunisian Ministry of Interior denied having expelled migrants into the desert and labeled as “false allegations” claims by the U.N. as evidence based on fake unverified videos from the Libyan side.

The fate of hundreds of migrants pushed into the Tunisia-Libya border region drew concern from international humanitarian groups.
