At What Age Do Tunisians Get Married
3K

The results of the 2024 national census show a notable increase in the average age of marriage in Tunisia for both men and women over the past six decades. In the 1960s, the average age was relatively low, but it has steadily risen since then.

This shift reflects broader changes in Tunisian society, including shifts in family structures, living patterns, and individual aspirations, all of which have been shaped by economic, cultural, and educational transformations. These factors have led to a delay in the age of marriage.

While the age gap between men and women still exists, the overall trend indicates a clear delay in marriage for both genders. This change highlights new priorities among young people, such as pursuing higher education, entering the workforce, and seeking financial and social stability before starting a family.

198424.328.1
199426.630.3
200429.132.7
201428.633
2024 (Projection)28.935.3
This data shows the increasing age at which people are getting married for the first time, with women and men both experiencing gradual increases over time.

According to the 2024 census, the average age of marriage for men has increased from 27.1 years in 1966 to 35.3 years in 2024. For women, the average age has risen from 20.9 years to 28.9 years over the same period.
