Terms of Service

By Editorial Staff

Effective: May 13, 2026.

Welcome to Carthage Magazine. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of carthagemagazine.com (the “Site”) and any products or services we offer through it — including ebooks sold via our shop. By using the Site or purchasing from us, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Site.

1. About Us

Carthage Magazine is an independent English-language publication based in Tunis, Tunisia. We publish journalism about Tunisia’s culture, economy, and civil society, and we sell a small catalogue of ebooks related to Tunisian life. You can reach us at info@carthagemagazine.com.

2. Using the Site

Most of our content is free to read. You agree to use the Site lawfully, not to interfere with its operation, and not to scrape, mirror, or systematically republish our content without our written permission. Automated harvesting of articles (including for training generative AI models) is not permitted without a licence.

3. Our Content

All articles, photographs, illustrations, ebooks, and other materials on the Site are the property of Carthage Magazine, our contributors, or our licensors, and are protected by Tunisian and international copyright law. You may share short excerpts with proper attribution and a link back, but you may not republish full articles or resell our ebooks. For licensing or syndication enquiries, write to press@carthagemagazine.com.

4. Reader Submissions

If you submit content to us — through Readers Write, comments, or any other channel — you grant Carthage Magazine a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to publish, edit, and distribute that content in connection with the magazine. You confirm that the content is your own work, that it doesn’t infringe anyone else’s rights, and that you have the authority to grant this licence. We reserve the right to edit submissions for length, clarity, and editorial standards, or to decline to publish.

5. Purchases and Digital Products

When you buy an ebook from us, you receive a personal, non-transferable licence to read and use it on your own devices. You may not resell, redistribute, share publicly, or upload our ebooks to file-sharing services. Each licence is for one buyer.

Our refund terms are set out in our Refund Policy.

6. Payment

Payments are processed by third-party payment providers (currently Stripe and PayPal, among others). We don’t store your card details on our servers. By purchasing, you authorise the relevant charge and confirm that you have the right to use the payment method.

7. Newsletter

If you subscribe to our newsletter, you agree to receive emails from us about new articles, ebooks, and occasionally announcements from the magazine. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email, or by emailing us directly.

8. Disclaimers

We work hard to keep our content accurate, but the Site is provided “as is.” Travel advice, government policy, prices, opening hours, and other practical details change. Verify anything time-sensitive — visas, border procedures, official advisories — with the relevant authority before acting on it.

Our journalism is independent. Where we have a commercial relationship with someone or something we cover, we disclose it in line with our editorial standards.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Carthage Magazine, its editors, contributors, and partners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site or our products. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — for example, liability for fraud or gross negligence.

10. Third-Party Links

We sometimes link to other websites for context or further reading. We’re not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of those sites.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the Site for anyone who violates these Terms — for example, by attempting to scrape content systematically, posting harmful submissions, or repeatedly attempting fraudulent purchases.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally. We’ll change the “Effective” date at the top and note material changes on the Site. Your continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Tunisia. Any dispute that can’t be resolved through good-faith discussion will be brought before the competent courts of Tunis.
